Two SSI Checks in December 2025 - Who Gets Them and How Much?

Supplemental Security Income is monthly financial assistance provided by the US government to individuals who have limited income or resources, especially those who are disabled, blind, and over 65 years of age.

The purpose of this scheme is to ensure that no one eligible for this benefit is deprived of basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter. The Social Security Administration is solely responsible for processing this payment.

Like every month, eligible individuals will receive this payment in December 2025. However, this month, two payments are scheduled to be released instead of one. In this article, we’ll explore whether this second payment is an extra or something else.

Why are there two SSI payments in December 2025?

According to the schedule released by the Social Security Administration for the SSI payment, two payments are scheduled to be released in December 2025, the first on 1 December and the second on 31 December.

The payment that is going to be released on 1st December is for the payment of December 2025, but the payment that is going to be released on 31st December is for the payment of January 2026. This is because 1st January 2026 is a holiday due to New Year.

What this means is that out of the two payments that are going to be released in December 2026, the first is the regular payment, and the second is not extra but is for January 2026, which is going to be received earlier due to the holiday.

What are the rates of December 2025 SSI payments?

The two Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments due in December 2025 will have completely different payment rates. We’ve provided details below.

  • The maximum SSI benefit released to you on December 1, 2025, will be $967 or $1,450, depending on whether you receive this benefit as a single or a couple.
  • The SSI benefits you will receive on December 31, 2025, will be a maximum of $994 or $1491, depending on whether you receive the payment as a single or a couple.

As the SSA announced a 2.8% COLA increase, all SSI beneficiaries will receive increased payments throughout 2026. If you receive the payment as an individual, you will receive $27 more than in 2025. If you receive it as a couple, you will receive $41 more.

When will the December 2025 SSI payment be received?

The SSA will release the first SSI payment for December 2025 on December 1 and the second for January 2026 on December 31. If you receive your benefits by direct deposit, your payment will be credited to your bank account within a few hours of release.

If you receive your Supplemental Security Income payment via paper check, you may have to wait at least three days or as long as seven days to receive it in your mailbox. If you live in a remote area, your waiting time may be longer than a day or two.

Who will receive the SSI payment in December 2025?

The December 2025 SSI payment will be available to all individuals who have been receiving the benefit for years/months and have not experienced any changes to their eligibility. Changes such as increased income or resources may result in payment being held.

And if you are one of the people who have recently applied for SSI benefit payment, then know that you will receive the December 2025 payment if the SSA has processed your application. If it is still pending or rejected, then you will not get the payment.

What to do if the SSI December 2025 payment is not received on time?

The SSA will release all payments for December 2025 on time, so there is no possibility of delays. If you don’t receive your payment on time, contact the Social Security Administration as soon as possible to find out why you haven’t received your payment.

It’s likely that your SSI payment has been held up due to a problem with your eligibility. If you believe you are eligible, the SSA officials will ask you to provide the required documents. If you provide them, you will receive your payment without delay.

Disclaimer: Details about receiving two SSI checks in December 2025 are for informational purposes only. Actual payment dates are determined by the SSA.
