The PMAY(U) is a scheme run by the GOI which aims to provide affordable housing to poor families. It has various verticals, the most important of which is BLC, i.e., Beneficiary-Led Construction, under which a family can receive up to ₹2.5 lakh.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the cash benefits are available only to families who wish to construct a home on their own land. The amount received is in the form of instalments, which are received gradually as construction progresses.

To receive benefits under this scheme, you must first apply, after which officials will visit you for the field verification, and then you will receive your first instalment to begin construction. Below, we have discussed the eligibility, application process, and other.

Who is eligible to get cash benefits under the PMAY(U)?

To avail the benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), it is necessary that you meet the requirements. After reading the points mentioned below, you will be sure whether you are eligible for this scheme or not.

  • You should not already have a pucca house in any territory of India.
  • The land on which you are planning to build a house should be in your name or in the name of your spouse, for which you must have valid papers.
  • Your family must fall under the Economically Weaker Section category. It means your annual income must not exceed ₹3 lakh. To prove this, you will need to provide an income certificate for the current financial year.

And the most important thing is that the land on which you are thinking of construction should be in the urban area; if you belong to the rural area, then you cannot apply for it.

How to apply for the PMAY(U) to get cash benefits?

To apply for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban and get cash benefits, follow the instructions given below:

  • Visit the official website of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) at https://pmay-urban.gov.in/.
  • On the home page you will see the option of ‘Apply for PMAY-U 2.0’; click on it and reach the next page.
  • Here, you will be given instructions to apply for this scheme. Here, you need to click on the ‘Click To Proceed’ button.
  • Now, the page that will now be visible to you will mention details regarding the required documents. Here, you need to click the ‘Proceed’ button.
  • After that, you need to choose your state, enter your household income, choose ‘vertical’ as beneficiary-led construction, answer questions with ‘No’, and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
  • Here, you will be asked to enter your Aadhar Number and Name, fill in the details accurately and click the Generate OTP button.
  • Now, you have to enter the (one-time password) OTP and click on the Submit button to access the form.
  • Lastly, you have to provide personal, family member, household, address and bank details accurately and submit it to apply online.

After submitting the application, it takes approximately 1 month to process. Once the processing is done, the officials will visit you for field verification, and if everything is correct, then in this situation you will get the benefit of this scheme.

How much cash benefit will be received under the PMAY(U)?

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0, an amount of ₹2.5 lakh is currently being provided for building a home on one’s own land. This amount will be received in instalments, not in one go.

  • After field verification, you will first receive an amount of ₹50,000.
  • When the foundation of your house is ready, then you will get an amount of ₹1,00,000/-.
  • After completion of the house slab, you will get an additional ₹50,000.
  • And when you finally get the plastering and painting done, you will also get the last instalment of ₹50,000/-.

After completion of each stage of construction, the verification officer will visit you and verify the progress of the construction.
