PM Ujjwala Yojana 2026: Free LPG Cylinder Rules, Refill Cost & Eligibility

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a scheme launched by the Government of India under which free gas connections are given to poor families so that they can use a clean fuel for cooking instead of coal or wood. Every single eligible Indian is eligible to avail the benefit of this scheme.

It is especially for those families who live in rural areas. Families who apply for it get an LPG cylinder, gas stove, and regulator with pipe absolutely free of cost. The LPG cylinder received for the first time is already refilled; after that, the family has to get it refilled itself, for which they also get a subsidy.

What’s the cost of refilling a gas cylinder under the PMUY 2.0?

The first gas cylinder you receive under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 is already refilled. Once it runs out, you have to refill it yourself, at a rate that changes every few months. Currently, the price is ₹954.

Although the refilling rate is ₹954, you should know that all the people who get gas connections under this scheme get ₹300 as a subsidy, which means that actually what you have to pay for refilling is only ₹654.

To receive the subsidy, it is essential that the person in whose name the gas connection is held has his or her bank account seeded with Aadhaar, as the subsidy amount is received through direct benefit transfer.
