Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that 8.2 million inflation refund checks were sent to taxpayers in the last two months. The inflation refund check is part of the governor’s program to put some money back into the pockets of New Yorkers paying taxes.
The inflation refund check was the government’s way to ensure that people could survive the rising cost of living. Eligible New Yorkers can receive the rebate check of up to $400, depending on their filing status and adjusted gross income.
When can you expect Kathy Hocul’s inflation refund?
According to the NY inflation rebate check guidelines, the Department of Taxation and Finance was scheduled to start the payment distribution at the end of September 2025. The inflation refund checks will be mailed to the respective taxpayers in multiple-week periods; hence, there is no fixed payment date.
As per Governor Kathy Hochul’s announcement, the department has started the distribution as per the schedule, and as of now, over 8 million refund checks have been mailed. So, if you are eligible for the refund check, you may have either received the refund or you will receive it in a few days.

Who will receive the NY inflation refund?
The NY Governor is offering the inflation refund check to help residents after inflation has skyrocketed. The authority will process the NY Inflation refund check based on the following eligibility conditions:
- You have filed the form IT-201 (NY Tax Return) for the tax year 2023 in the 2024 tax season.
- You have reported the income, and it comes under the qualifying threshold as per the qualifying status.
- In some other taxpayer returns, you were not claimed as a dependent.

What if you do not receive the NY inflation refund check?
The Department of Taxation and Finance has processed the NY inflation refund check for 8 million taxpayers; however, if you find yourself eligible, but did not receive the cheque yet, you should take the following action:
- First, you should wait for the NY inflation check, as the disbursement process is still going on by December 2025.
- If you do not receive the payment by December 2025, you can reach out to the NY Department of Taxation and Finance via automated number 518-457-5149.
Important Note:
- The department has issued a warning that scammers are calling, texting, or mailing the taxpayers about the inflation refund check to scam people, so be vigilant and never share your personal information or pay anything to receive your refund, as it is an automatic payment.
- The online services of NY Taxation and Finance Department will be shut down from 5 PM on 04 December to 10 AM on 08 December, so if you have any queries, reach out before the shutdown.
